Narrative:

Aircraft came in and previous captain wrote up aircraft for maintenance items. 1 page was full, so he started a new page and put 1 item (smoke door came off hinge) on the new page and did not tell anyone. The pages in the aircraft maintenance log (aml) are such that with the new page you could cover it up so that nobody would know a new page was started. Maintenance came on aircraft the same time that I did and when they opened the smoke doors, it came off the hinge. Maintenance fixed it immediately. They proceeded to repair aircraft and sign off all items except the one on the new page, that they did not know was there. I signed and accepted aircraft on the page that had all the write-ups on it because there was room and I had no idea that a new page was started. In the morning, I went to start a new page and saw the open write-up and contacted dispatch right away. I knew the smoke door had been repaired but we had to ferry the aircraft for maintenance.
