Narrative:

While on assigned heading of 270 degrees by rdu approach, TCASII RA occurred. TCASII was followed on assigned ATC heading of 270 degrees and descent altitude assigned was maintained. TCASII showed intruder 1 O'clock position 300 ft above. At no time was aircraft of intruder observed. Rdu approach did not have intruder on their radar. Suspect false report by TCASII. TCASII check ok before and after event.

Narrative: WHILE ON ASSIGNED HDG OF 270 DEGS BY RDU APCH, TCASII RA OCCURRED. TCASII WAS FOLLOWED ON ASSIGNED ATC HDG OF 270 DEGS AND DSCNT ALT ASSIGNED WAS MAINTAINED. TCASII SHOWED INTRUDER 1 O'CLOCK POS 300 FT ABOVE. AT NO TIME WAS ACFT OF INTRUDER OBSERVED. RDU APCH DID NOT HAVE INTRUDER ON THEIR RADAR. SUSPECT FALSE RPT BY TCASII. TCASII CHK OK BEFORE AND AFTER EVENT.
