Narrative:

We were on an IFR clearance cleared to descend from 7000 ft to 5000 ft. The captain (PF) noticed a small high winged airplane fly underneath us. He came under the left wing at a 90 degree angle and we just missed him by about 50 to 100 ft. We were around 6500 ft at the time. We had no time to take any evasive action. We (captain) immediately asked ATC if they had any traffic in our area and they replied in the negative. Later, when the captain called ATC on the phone, they said that they did have him on radar. They said he was flying at 6500 ft. I (the first officer) never saw the other aircraft at any time.
