Narrative:

The first officer was flying. We were cruising at 1500 ft, 50 mi west of springfield, mo. The first officer noticed the left oil pressure gauge was resting on the high pressure red line. There were no warning or caution lights to cover high oil pressure and all other gauge indications were normal. As the WX was clear and we were close to sgf, I elected to do a precautionary engine shutdown. An emergency was declared and equipment called out due to the fact we had nine revenue passenger on board. The descent and approach and landing were all uneventful and accomplished according to the applicable checklists.
