Narrative:

This NASA report is being submitted to help document the importance of checklist use and compliance. We taxied out on one engine for fuel purposes. There were 3 other aircraft ahead of us and things seemed to be moving very slowly. Without much warning, tower started clearing out all the traffic very rapidly. We were cleared into position while starting the #2 engine. At this point we did have a minor idle problem with #2, but corrected it with standard procedures. We were in the middle of the before takeoff checklist when cleared for takeoff. One of the items on this checklist is to check the takeoff warning system. When we did this, we received the aural warning for flaps. Rather than rush through to find the faulty item in an already hectic environment, I chose to cancel takeoff clearance and taxi clear of the active. After clearing, we found the flap setting on the takeoff condition computer was improperly set! We inserted the correct 11 degree setting, tested the system and proceeded onward and upward. This item is a relatively new item on our checklist. I'm glad it was there and that we performed it as advertised.
