Narrative:

Shortly before level off, received an engine malfunction message on ECAM. Company was consulted and a decision was made to return to msp. An emergency was declared, spoilers were used on descent and level offs (before the approach) to reduce weight as much as possible (no fuel dump system). An overweight landing was accomplished uneventfully. All applicable checklists and procedures were followed.

Narrative: SHORTLY BEFORE LEVEL OFF, RECEIVED AN ENG MALFUNCTION MESSAGE ON ECAM. COMPANY WAS CONSULTED AND A DECISION WAS MADE TO RETURN TO MSP. AN EMER WAS DECLARED, SPOILERS WERE USED ON DSCNT AND LEVEL OFFS (BEFORE THE APCH) TO REDUCE WT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE (NO FUEL DUMP SYS). AN OVERWT LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED UNEVENTFULLY. ALL APPLICABLE CHKLISTS AND PROCS WERE FOLLOWED.
