Narrative:

Vectored trailing air carrier X off course to allow the other to get requested altitude. When 9 mi apart, turned trailing air carrier X back to join airway. Trailing air carrier X gained speed and crossed less than 5 mi behind air carrier Y. The reason for increased speed was strong winds out of the west. When conflict was noticed, I called next sector to stop front air carrier X climb but was unable.
