Narrative:
ADF was inoperative and on MEL. I briefed tower on approach to 18L at mem, which did not require an ADF for the approach, but did require it for the missed approach procedure. I missed that point and should have requested a revised missed approach procedure from approach control. We broke out VFR and subsequently did a visual approach from about 8 mi out.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR DC-9 ADF INOP. NO CONSIDERATION FOR USE OF ADF FOR MAP PROC.
Narrative: ADF WAS INOP AND ON MEL. I BRIEFED TWR ON APCH TO 18L AT MEM, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE AN ADF FOR THE APCH, BUT DID REQUIRE IT FOR THE MISSED APCH PROC. I MISSED THAT POINT AND SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED A REVISED MISSED APCH PROC FROM APCH CTL. WE BROKE OUT VFR AND SUBSEQUENTLY DID A VISUAL APCH FROM ABOUT 8 MI OUT.
