Narrative:

Departing kewr, we were cleared into position and hold on runway 22R. We were taking position from the west side of the runway on taxiway X. Taxiway X also continues across on the east side of runway 22R. We were surprised that the taxi light did not illuminate when the captain turned it on because it had worked fine during the entire taxi until this time. The captain turned both landing lights on, which did illuminate, however the right one was dim or misaligned. The combination of these lights, the melting snow and ice on the runway which had refrozen, and the centerline lights being inoperative, made the runway markings and centerline difficult to see. We did not have any NOTAMS on our paperwork that indicated that the centerline lights were inoperative, neither did the ATIS. As I noticed we were taxiing across the center of the runway, I immediately brought it to the captain's attention and he stopped the aircraft just short of the edge of the runway. The captain had mistaken the edge lights for lights that appeared just like centerline lights. Fortunately, we did not get to close to the edge of the runway and we taxied back to position and hold on the centerline with a sharp right turn, and without conflict. We made a normal takeoff and flight to kord and upon arrival made a maintenance write-up about the inoperative taxi light and dim or misaligned right landing light.

Title: MLG TAXIED CLOSE TO FAR RWY EDGE LIGHTS BELIEVING THEM TO BE CTRLINE LIGHTING. CORRECTED.

Narrative: DEPARTING KEWR, WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 22R. WE WERE TAKING POS FROM THE W SIDE OF THE RWY ON TXWY X. TXWY X ALSO CONTINUES ACROSS ON THE E SIDE OF RWY 22R. WE WERE SURPRISED THAT THE TAXI LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE CAPT TURNED IT ON BECAUSE IT HAD WORKED FINE DURING THE ENTIRE TAXI UNTIL THIS TIME. THE CAPT TURNED BOTH LNDG LIGHTS ON, WHICH DID ILLUMINATE, HOWEVER THE R ONE WAS DIM OR MISALIGNED. THE COMBINATION OF THESE LIGHTS, THE MELTING SNOW AND ICE ON THE RWY WHICH HAD REFROZEN, AND THE CTRLINE LIGHTS BEING INOP, MADE THE RWY MARKINGS AND CTRLINE DIFFICULT TO SEE. WE DID NOT HAVE ANY NOTAMS ON OUR PAPERWORK THAT INDICATED THAT THE CTRLINE LIGHTS WERE INOP, NEITHER DID THE ATIS. AS I NOTICED WE WERE TAXIING ACROSS THE CTR OF THE RWY, I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO THE CAPT'S ATTN AND HE STOPPED THE ACFT JUST SHORT OF THE EDGE OF THE RWY. THE CAPT HAD MISTAKEN THE EDGE LIGHTS FOR LIGHTS THAT APPEARED JUST LIKE CTRLINE LIGHTS. FORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT GET TO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE RWY AND WE TAXIED BACK TO POS AND HOLD ON THE CTRLINE WITH A SHARP R TURN, AND WITHOUT CONFLICT. WE MADE A NORMAL TKOF AND FLT TO KORD AND UPON ARR MADE A MAINT WRITE-UP ABOUT THE INOP TAXI LIGHT AND DIM OR MISALIGNED R LNDG LIGHT.
