Narrative:

Left main landing gear unsafe light would not go out upon lowering landing gear in kiln. Followed dc-8 aircraft procedure including depressurizing hydraulic system and using alternate gear extension. Fly by kiln tower 'gear appears down.' also tried touchdown on right main to jar something loose. No help. Tried some turns to try to put some air loads on gear to pop into position. Again, no help. Landed kiln with unsafe gear. Came to stop, had ground pin landing gear and towed to ramp. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the cause of the lack of the left gear down indication was the downlock micro switch covered with ice and slush. The aircraft was a model dc-8-61 and the landing gear unsafe down warning horn sounded even on the ground after installing the landing gear pins.
