Narrative:

Early in the flight, we discovered that our aircraft, an large transport, had caused a 'stuck microphone' condition on a VHF communication frequency when we switched over to that ATC frequency. We isolated the problem to a switch on the captain's VHF communication panel (or so we thought) and did not move that switch again. On our arrival in the ord area, we were handled by approach control, vectored onto the ILS 27L localizer, and told to contact ord tower at willit. This was accomplished, and we were cleared to land 27L. First officer was flying his first approach and landing in large transport on the first day of his initial operating experience. After receiving landing clearance, and well inside OM (willit), and while keeping a watch outside, and supervising my brand new first officer, I did notice a commuter aircraft that was, or appeared to be, holding short of either 27L, or 22L. He was clear of our approach path, and runway 27L, to our right. After touchdown, during rollout, I realized that the frequency was very quiet. Suspected a 'stuck microphone' condition again, cleared the runway, and re-established contact with ord ground control. We were then cleared to the gate. Upon arrival, I was asked to call ord tower, which I did. They acknowledged that we had received landing clearance, and then lost communication with them. Evidently, they were concerned that the commuter plane was encroaching on our runway, and they, (the tower) had issued us a clearance to 'go around,' which we never received. I verified for the tower supervisor that the other aircraft had been to our right and clear of our path and runway.

Title: ACR MLG CREW FAILS TO HEAR TWR ISSUE GAR COMMAND ON SHORT FINAL WHEN THEY EXPERIENCE LOSS OF COM ON TWR FREQ.

Narrative: EARLY IN THE FLT, WE DISCOVERED THAT OUR ACFT, AN LGT, HAD CAUSED A 'STUCK MIKE' CONDITION ON A VHF COM FREQ WHEN WE SWITCHED OVER TO THAT ATC FREQ. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT WE HAD RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC, AND THEN LOST COM WITH THEM. EVIDENTLY, THEY WERE CONCERNED THAT THE COMMUTER PLANE WAS ENCROACHING ON OUR RWY, AND THEY, (THE TWR) HAD ISSUED US A CLRNC TO 'GAR,' WHICH WE NEVER RECEIVED. I VERIFIED FOR THE TWR SUPVR THAT THE OTHER ACFT HAD BEEN TO OUR R AND CLR OF OUR PATH AND RWY.
