Narrative:

Copilot VOR stuck to the case during radial intercept. We missed the turn at the intersection for the arrival at ewr. The VOR then started fluctuating 5 degrees left and right. The ATC controller was very helpful with the situation. No conflict was noted. The arrival was the ward 5 into ewr. Supplemental information from acn 259079: as I approached speak I tuned in smyrna 055 degree (to). I started a turn to intercept, as I did the CDI came off the case and centered. I rolled out and kept the needle centered. 3 or 4 mins later the center controller advised of a large turn to the left to reintercept the airway.
