Narrative:

After takeoff gear would not retract. Departure informed us transponder did not work. After further investigation, we discovered cabin would not pressurize, spoilers would not arm for landing -- all pointing to ground shift failure. The airplane had a gear problem on previous day and maintenance had corrected it. An overweight landing was made in accordance with directives and no further problems realized. Upon reaching the gate, the mechanic who met us informed us the ground shift mechanism was disconnected. Suspect maintenance had failed to connect after working on the gear.
