Narrative:

While setting takeoff power, the takeoff warning horn sounded. Retarded throttles and exited the runway. Found the flaps were not in the takeoff range. Reset flaps and other takeoff warning inputs and next takeoff was normal. I usually check the takeoff warning by advancing a throttle prior to taxiing onto the runway but failed to do so. Checking the takeoff warning is not a checklist item, but it should be. We missed rechking the flaps on the before takeoff checklist. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: this grizzled veteran analyst is surprised to find that this major air carrier has no place in its checklist for the pilots to check the operation of the takeoff warning system. The air carrier for which the reporter formerly worked, which was swallowed up by the reporter's current employer, did have a procedure wherein the flight crew checked the takeoff warning system regularly. The primo air carrier that had the good fortune to hire this analyst also had this type procedure. After seeing this done for more than 27 yrs, one would believe that everyone did this.

Title: AN ACR MLG ABORTED ITS TKOF.

Narrative: WHILE SETTING TKOF PWR, THE TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. RETARDED THROTTLES AND EXITED THE RWY. FOUND THE FLAPS WERE NOT IN THE TKOF RANGE. RESET FLAPS AND OTHER TKOF WARNING INPUTS AND NEXT TKOF WAS NORMAL. I USUALLY CHK THE TKOF WARNING BY ADVANCING A THROTTLE PRIOR TO TAXIING ONTO THE RWY BUT FAILED TO DO SO. CHKING THE TKOF WARNING IS NOT A CHKLIST ITEM, BUT IT SHOULD BE. WE MISSED RECHKING THE FLAPS ON THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THIS GRIZZLED VETERAN ANALYST IS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT THIS MAJOR ACR HAS NO PLACE IN ITS CHKLIST FOR THE PLTS TO CHK THE OP OF THE TKOF WARNING SYS. THE ACR FOR WHICH THE RPTR FORMERLY WORKED, WHICH WAS SWALLOWED UP BY THE RPTR'S CURRENT EMPLOYER, DID HAVE A PROC WHEREIN THE FLC CHKED THE TKOF WARNING SYS REGULARLY. THE PRIMO ACR THAT HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO HIRE THIS ANALYST ALSO HAD THIS TYPE PROC. AFTER SEEING THIS DONE FOR MORE THAN 27 YRS, ONE WOULD BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE DID THIS.
