Narrative:

Vector for visual approach to runway 21R at dtw. Approximately 15 NM northeast of airport, descending to 3000 ft on approximately 190 degree heading. Traffic called 'at approximately 11 O'clock, small aircraft single engine land, 2800 ft.' traffic spotted on a westerly heading. Traffic called again, 'small aircraft, 10 O'clock, 2900 ft.' we were level at 3000 ft, passed in front of small aircraft by about 1/2 NM. Told approach about traffic in sight. Accepted visual approach for runway 21R. Told tower small aircraft was pretty close. Filed near miss report with dtw approach on ground. Our aircraft was 1 of only a few in fleet without TCASII. We did see single engine land small aircraft, but it was fairly close. TCASII would have been going off for sure.
