Narrative:

Shut #3 engine down due to oil temperature fluctuation continuing higher. Just prior to shutdown, oil temperature went from 113 degrees to 170 degrees plus, in 8-10 seconds, considering temperature source position in oil system almost had to be indicator only. But followed company procedure and shut down and secured engine, called ATC and company. With consideration for WX, traffic, weight, fuel, dispatch and maintenance control, continued to dtw. Started engine 15 mins out of dtw per maintenance control. All indications normal to shutdown at gate. On ground at dtw, maintenance advised engine and oil appeared and smelled normal.
