Narrative:

I took off from runway 9L with a clearance from the tower to make a southeast departure. I knew I would be flying towards an antenna farm (which has about a dozen tall radio and television antennas, the tallest of which reaches 1049 ft MSL (1044 ft AGL). Being aware of this antenna farm is a normal concern for pilots based at north perry airport. Because these antennas are so close to the airport, they are always encountered as an obstacle during southeast departures. During my climb out, I headed between 2 antennas that were 997 ft MSL (985 ft AGL) and 743 ft MSL (733 ft AGL), planning to be above 1000 ft MSL when I reached these antennas. During the climb, the antennas were out of sight due to the plane's climb angle, so I occasionally lowered the nose of the plane to visually check the locations of the 2 antennas. When I reached 1100 ft, I leveled off and noticed that I was passing the 997 ft antenna about 100 ft above it and about 300 ft horizontal of it. I knew that this was too close for comfort. I should have made 1 more visual check and altered course slightly to fly more in between the 2 antennas. I continued my flight and soon overflew the intracoastal waterway. I turned south, following the canal system while descending down to 800 ft. I descended because I was planning to fly under the 1000 ft floor of the miami class B airspace (formerly miami TCA), which bordered biscayne bay, the area I was heading for. When I got to 800 ft, I got a call from the controller in north perry tower. He asked me to identify. I did, then he asked for my final destination. I told him I was going to overfly biscayne bay, then head back to north perry airport. At this point, I figured that either someone reported my closeness to the antenna or my descent to 800 ft over the intracoastal waterway. I was expecting to get a call from the controller when I got back to the airport, but I didn't. I learned from my errors and decided to file a NASA arc 277 form so that other pilots can learn as well.

DURING MY CLBOUT, I HEADED BTWN 2 ANTENNAS THAT WERE 997 FT MSL (985 FT AGL) AND 743 FT MSL (733 FT AGL), PLANNING TO BE ABOVE 1000 FT MSL WHEN I REACHED THESE ANTENNAS. DURING THE CLB, THE ANTENNAS WERE OUT OF SIGHT DUE TO THE PLANE'S CLB ANGLE, SO I OCCASIONALLY LOWERED THE NOSE OF THE PLANE TO VISUALLY CHK THE LOCATIONS OF THE 2 ANTENNAS. I DSNDED BECAUSE I WAS PLANNING TO FLY UNDER THE 1000 FT FLOOR OF THE MIAMI CLASS B AIRSPACE (FORMERLY MIAMI TCA), WHICH BORDERED BISCAYNE BAY, THE AREA I WAS HDG FOR. WHEN I GOT TO 800 FT, I GOT A CALL FROM THE CTLR IN NORTH PERRY TWR. HE ASKED ME TO IDENT. I DID, THEN HE ASKED FOR MY FINAL DEST. I TOLD HIM I WAS GOING TO OVERFLY BISCAYNE BAY, THEN HEAD BACK TO NORTH PERRY ARPT. AT THIS POINT, I FIGURED THAT EITHER SOMEONE RPTED MY CLOSENESS TO THE ANTENNA OR MY DSCNT TO 800 FT OVER THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY. I WAS EXPECTING TO GET A CALL FROM THE CTLR WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE ARPT, BUT I DIDN'T. I LEARNED FROM MY ERRORS AND DECIDED TO FILE A NASA ARC 277 FORM SO THAT OTHER PLTS CAN LEARN AS WELL.
