Narrative:

Shortly after takeoff from runway 21C at dtw, my first officer and I noticed torque fluctuations on the #1 engine. The fluctuations continued for a short time, then the torque indication exceeded 105 percent limitation. At that time, we elected to shut the engine down. Following the procedures we had been thoroughly trained to use, we secured the engine, then landed uneventfully on runway 21L at dtw.
