Narrative:

I was scheduled to fly aircraft for the first 4 legs of trip on jul/sat/93. I noticed that the ground spoiler system had been written up several times in the preceding week, along with quite a few other items. After our second leg, I ran into a captain who told me he had quite a problem with the ground spoiler system the last time he flew the aircraft. It had not given us a problem until our 4TH leg of the day. Normal procedure is to deploy the ground spoilers just prior to takeoff, only to have them automatically retract when the power levers are brought forward. Upon takeoff from runway 1 in alb, the ground spoiler light remained on, causing the takeoff warning horn to go off and forcing me to abort the takeoff. After clearing the runway, I manually retracted the ground spoilers and they retracted in a normal manner. After a second attempted takeoff, the same thing happened, forcing another abort. I cleared the runway and proceeded to a runup area. I deployed the ground spoilers and ran the power levers forward. This time, they retracted in a normal manner. Therefore, I attempted a third takeoff, which was successful. I feel this whole incident could have been avoided if we were just allowed to leave the flight/taxi switch in taxi prior to takeoff.

Title: ACR MDT PIC DECRIES THE OPERATING PROC REQUIRED IN ACFT EQUIP OPERATING PROCS. TKOF ABORTED, 2 TIMES.

Narrative: I WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY ACFT FOR THE FIRST 4 LEGS OF TRIP ON JUL/SAT/93. I NOTICED THAT THE GND SPOILER SYS HAD BEEN WRITTEN UP SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PRECEDING WK, ALONG WITH QUITE A FEW OTHER ITEMS. AFTER OUR SECOND LEG, I RAN INTO A CAPT WHO TOLD ME HE HAD QUITE A PROB WITH THE GND SPOILER SYS THE LAST TIME HE FLEW THE ACFT. IT HAD NOT GIVEN US A PROB UNTIL OUR 4TH LEG OF THE DAY. NORMAL PROC IS TO DEPLOY THE GND SPOILERS JUST PRIOR TO TKOF, ONLY TO HAVE THEM AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT WHEN THE PWR LEVERS ARE BROUGHT FORWARD. UPON TKOF FROM RWY 1 IN ALB, THE GND SPOILER LIGHT REMAINED ON, CAUSING THE TKOF WARNING HORN TO GO OFF AND FORCING ME TO ABORT THE TKOF. AFTER CLRING THE RWY, I MANUALLY RETRACTED THE GND SPOILERS AND THEY RETRACTED IN A NORMAL MANNER. AFTER A SECOND ATTEMPTED TKOF, THE SAME THING HAPPENED, FORCING ANOTHER ABORT. I CLRED THE RWY AND PROCEEDED TO A RUNUP AREA. I DEPLOYED THE GND SPOILERS AND RAN THE PWR LEVERS FORWARD. THIS TIME, THEY RETRACTED IN A NORMAL MANNER. THEREFORE, I ATTEMPTED A THIRD TKOF, WHICH WAS SUCCESSFUL. I FEEL THIS WHOLE INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF WE WERE JUST ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE FLT/TAXI SWITCH IN TAXI PRIOR TO TKOF.
