Narrative:
A military aircraft departed miramar NAS and a passenger in the rear of our aircraft said he passed very close by. I was receiving instruction in the aircraft and was new to the area and never saw the aircraft. If this occurred, it seems that there is potential conflict between these 2 facilities. We had transponder. Tower at montgomery asked if we had heard the TA. Instructor had radio low while talking. I did not hear the advisory. I don't recall being overly occupied but apparently missed this aircraft.
