Narrative:

When center handed us off, he gave us an advisory for traffic (southeast) which we were 'closing on rapidly.' however, no vector for separation, just frequency change to approach. Upon flicking to approach we hear controller advise southeast aircraft about air carrier jet at 6 O'clock and closing fast. Still no vector. As we saw event on TCASII go from TA to RA we complied with climb advisory and left 11000 ft and at 11600 ft we received clear of conflict and reported situation to approach. First officer had traffic, I did not.
