Narrative:

Upon departing from lax airport, as I was taxiing out, I went through my taxi out and takeoff checklist items (time, boost pump, lights, mixture, transponder, and directional gyroscope). Takeoff occurred without incident. About 2 mins after takeoff I was informed that I was departing the TCA, and frequency change was approved, and to have a nice night. At this point I turned off the communication radio, since it was not necessary to speak to anyone for awhile. When I was over el toro marine air base, I contacted ont approach with my intention for landing at ont. I was given a code for my transponder, and as I was dialing the code in, I noticed that the selection knob of the transponder was set in between 'on' and 'altitude.' I cannot be positive either that my transponder was sending a signal or not, though I was immediately idented by ont after I had inputted my squawk. I was given an immediate takeoff from lax, and I should have double-checked everything once airborne, though I feel that if my transponder was not transmitting a signal, it was not posing a safety threat, since at XA00 am, clear skies, and at least 50 mi visibility at altitude, and no other traffic ever spotted during the entire flight, my identify was somewhat trivial. Awareness of everything is necessary at all times!

Title: PLT BEHAVIOR UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE.

Narrative: UPON DEPARTING FROM LAX ARPT, AS I WAS TAXIING OUT, I WENT THROUGH MY TAXI OUT AND TKOF CHKLIST ITEMS (TIME, BOOST PUMP, LIGHTS, MIXTURE, XPONDER, AND DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE). TKOF OCCURRED WITHOUT INCIDENT. ABOUT 2 MINS AFTER TKOF I WAS INFORMED THAT I WAS DEPARTING THE TCA, AND FREQ CHANGE WAS APPROVED, AND TO HAVE A NICE NIGHT. AT THIS POINT I TURNED OFF THE COM RADIO, SINCE IT WAS NOT NECESSARY TO SPEAK TO ANYONE FOR AWHILE. WHEN I WAS OVER EL TORO MARINE AIR BASE, I CONTACTED ONT APCH WITH MY INTENTION FOR LNDG AT ONT. I WAS GIVEN A CODE FOR MY XPONDER, AND AS I WAS DIALING THE CODE IN, I NOTICED THAT THE SELECTION KNOB OF THE XPONDER WAS SET IN BTWN 'ON' AND 'ALT.' I CANNOT BE POSITIVE EITHER THAT MY XPONDER WAS SENDING A SIGNAL OR NOT, THOUGH I WAS IMMEDIATELY IDENTED BY ONT AFTER I HAD INPUTTED MY SQUAWK. I WAS GIVEN AN IMMEDIATE TKOF FROM LAX, AND I SHOULD HAVE DOUBLE-CHKED EVERYTHING ONCE AIRBORNE, THOUGH I FEEL THAT IF MY XPONDER WAS NOT XMITTING A SIGNAL, IT WAS NOT POSING A SAFETY THREAT, SINCE AT XA00 AM, CLR SKIES, AND AT LEAST 50 MI VISIBILITY AT ALT, AND NO OTHER TFC EVER SPOTTED DURING THE ENTIRE FLT, MY IDENT WAS SOMEWHAT TRIVIAL. AWARENESS OF EVERYTHING IS NECESSARY AT ALL TIMES!
