Narrative:

On flight tpa to bos during climb, #1 engine lost power, followed with 2 loud bangs (possible compressor stalls), and loss of engine oil pressure. All of the above was accompanied with engine vibration. Autoplt in use, aircraft yawed excessively. Immediately disconnected autoplt and began emergency checklists. First officer advised ATC we were declaring an emergency and requested to return to tpa. Asked to have emergency equipment standing by. During return, all appropriate emergency procedures were completed. Flight attendants were briefed and passenger given announcement explaining problem and what possible to expect. Landing completed with no further problems.

Title: ACR ON CLBOUT HAS LOSS OF ENG PWR, 2 LOUD BANGS AND ENG VIBRATIONS.

Narrative: ON FLT TPA TO BOS DURING CLB, #1 ENG LOST PWR, FOLLOWED WITH 2 LOUD BANGS (POSSIBLE COMPRESSOR STALLS), AND LOSS OF ENG OIL PRESSURE. ALL OF THE ABOVE WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH ENG VIBRATION. AUTOPLT IN USE, ACFT YAWED EXCESSIVELY. IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND BEGAN EMER CHKLISTS. FO ADVISED ATC WE WERE DECLARING AN EMER AND REQUESTED TO RETURN TO TPA. ASKED TO HAVE EMER EQUIP STANDING BY. DURING RETURN, ALL APPROPRIATE EMER PROCS WERE COMPLETED. FLT ATTENDANTS WERE BRIEFED AND PAX GIVEN ANNOUNCEMENT EXPLAINING PROB AND WHAT POSSIBLE TO EXPECT. LNDG COMPLETED WITH NO FURTHER PROBS.
