Narrative:

On may/xx/93 I was leaving tri cities airport to go back to ellensberg, wa. The tower controller told me, to the best of my knowledge, 'taxi runway 21R advise when ready for takeoff.' without the phrase hold short runway 21R, I taxied onto the active runway. At that point the controller asked me what I was doing. I told him that I thought he had told me to taxi on the runway and advise for takeoff. The controller came back and said 'cleared for takeoff, what direction would you like the turn.' after takeoff I tried to decide if I made a mistake, and I left the area back to ellensberg.

Title: PLT OF SMA TRAINING ACFT INADVERTENTLY TAXIED ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: ON MAY/XX/93 I WAS LEAVING TRI CITIES ARPT TO GO BACK TO ELLENSBERG, WA. THE TWR CTLR TOLD ME, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, 'TAXI RWY 21R ADVISE WHEN READY FOR TKOF.' WITHOUT THE PHRASE HOLD SHORT RWY 21R, I TAXIED ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY. AT THAT POINT THE CTLR ASKED ME WHAT I WAS DOING. I TOLD HIM THAT I THOUGHT HE HAD TOLD ME TO TAXI ON THE RWY AND ADVISE FOR TKOF. THE CTLR CAME BACK AND SAID 'CLRED FOR TKOF, WHAT DIRECTION WOULD YOU LIKE THE TURN.' AFTER TKOF I TRIED TO DECIDE IF I MADE A MISTAKE, AND I LEFT THE AREA BACK TO ELLENSBERG.
