Narrative:
Tower instructed me to taxi into position and hold runway 22 while I was distracted listening to another aircraft which was called by tower 3 times without replying. Inside the aircraft behind me was a friend of mine whom tower also told to taxi into position and hold. My friend waved me on as if saying go ahead, which made me think I missed my takeoff clearance. My mistake was to assume that I was cleared for takeoff because I didn't know there could be 2 aircraft assigned position and hold for the same runway. After takeoff, tower politely reminded me that I was not cleared. Luckily there was no conflict.

Title: FLT INSTRUCTOR OF AN SMA SEL TRAINING ACFT INADVERTENTLY TOOK OFF WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 22 WHILE I WAS DISTRACTED LISTENING TO ANOTHER ACFT WHICH WAS CALLED BY TWR 3 TIMES WITHOUT REPLYING. INSIDE THE ACFT BEHIND ME WAS A FRIEND OF MINE WHOM TWR ALSO TOLD TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. MY FRIEND WAVED ME ON AS IF SAYING GO AHEAD, WHICH MADE ME THINK I MISSED MY TKOF CLRNC. MY MISTAKE WAS TO ASSUME THAT I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THERE COULD BE 2 ACFT ASSIGNED POS AND HOLD FOR THE SAME RWY. AFTER TKOF, TWR POLITELY REMINDED ME THAT I WAS NOT CLRED. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CONFLICT.
