Narrative:
After an uneventful flight from iad to sfo, maintenance came on board after engine shutdown and told us we had #4 engine damage. There was a hold about a ft across on outboard side of engine and the lower edge of cowling was flattened by something heavy like a truck. None of the flight crew have any knowledge how this damage was done.
