Narrative:
Airports for jfk, isp, and hpn were closed due to WX. Flts for those associated airports were being placed in hold with some aircraft diverting to alternates. Air carrier X was northbound at FL330 with air carrier Y sbound at FL350. Air carrier Y needed to descend to FL190 to transition to dca. I gave an initial descent to FL280 to air carrier Y. Upon realizing the conflict, I stopped air carrier Y at his present altitude and issued a turn.
