Narrative:

Climbing to 8000 ft avoiding thunderstorms and buildups. TCASII issues RA 'descend.' aircraft visually acquired crossing our nose at 9000 ft MSL. As we leveled at 8000 ft TCASII issues RA 'monitor vertical speed.' these loud warnings are very distracting and ATC is asking to confirm our altitude at 8000 ft with TCASII screaming at us. It would be very nice if a provision existed to silence the aural warning. It gets your attention, and the vsi provides vertical commands. The continuing aural warnings when they are not needed is disconcerting and nervewracking.
