Narrative:

Due to poor routing issued by ATC, an excessive amount of radio time is expended on requesting a more direct route after hvq to sdf. The poor route requires aircraft to fly J-6 to the iiu 131 degree radial rapidly that is from the northeast sector of the airport to the southeast sector, approximately 60 mi southwest of airport, then a right 67 degree turn to proceed inbound on the iiu 131 degree radial to the VOR. When requested both times to fly hvq J-8 iiu direct sdf, ATC denied it, then numerous requests were made to fly direct iiu direct sdf with all being denied. Reason: ZID said no was because sdf approach would not allow it, not because of traffic.

Title: AN MLG ACR CREW WAS GIVEN A LONGER RTE TO SDF WITH NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE ROUTING.

Narrative: DUE TO POOR ROUTING ISSUED BY ATC, AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RADIO TIME IS EXPENDED ON REQUESTING A MORE DIRECT RTE AFTER HVQ TO SDF. THE POOR RTE REQUIRES ACFT TO FLY J-6 TO THE IIU 131 DEG RADIAL RAPIDLY THAT IS FROM THE NE SECTOR OF THE ARPT TO THE SE SECTOR, APPROX 60 MI SW OF ARPT, THEN A R 67 DEG TURN TO PROCEED INBOUND ON THE IIU 131 DEG RADIAL TO THE VOR. WHEN REQUESTED BOTH TIMES TO FLY HVQ J-8 IIU DIRECT SDF, ATC DENIED IT, THEN NUMEROUS REQUESTS WERE MADE TO FLY DIRECT IIU DIRECT SDF WITH ALL BEING DENIED. REASON: ZID SAID NO WAS BECAUSE SDF APCH WOULD NOT ALLOW IT, NOT BECAUSE OF TFC.
