Narrative:

New york approach cleared our flight to descend to 7000 ft from our current altitude of 11000 ft. We commenced the descent and failed to slow the aircraft to 250 KTS at 10000 MSL. We simply forgot to slow down at 10000 ft and we were still doing about 275 KTS when the controller asked for our speed. I believe that a combination of fatigue and cockpit conversation were the cause of this lapse in concentration. Fatigue was definitely a factor after a short night and better adherence to the 10000 ft barrier on conversation will be an important part of my future flying.
