Narrative:

Copilot was landing aircraft upon arrival from barcelona and madrid. We told approach control we had airport in sight. Approach control cleared us for an 8 mi visual approach, with a heading change, altitude change and contact tower at the marker -- all in the same transmission. Copilot landed aircraft, I turned aircraft off runway 9R and held short of runway 9L waiting for tower to clear us to cross. When copilot discovered we were still on approach frequency. We have a dual display radio. Tower had been set in but not selected. We switched to tower and told them we were holding short. Tower said to cross runway 9L and contact ground. No other comment was made. The landing runway was clear and there was never a conflict with another aircraft or ground vehicle. It appears we landed with the radio selected to approach. Approach did not try to contact us inside the marker to remind us to go to tower. The traffic in the pattern was light. The approach flown was high because of the close turn on. My attention was more on the descent to the GS and must have failed to switch to tower. It would help if approach could warn aircraft on downwind how long finals are. It would help in our descent and confign planning.

Title: ACR MAKES LNDG WITHOUT TWR CONTACT.

Narrative: COPLT WAS LNDG ACFT UPON ARR FROM BARCELONA AND MADRID. WE TOLD APCH CTL WE HAD ARPT IN SIGHT. APCH CTL CLRED US FOR AN 8 MI VISUAL APCH, WITH A HDG CHANGE, ALT CHANGE AND CONTACT TWR AT THE MARKER -- ALL IN THE SAME XMISSION. COPLT LANDED ACFT, I TURNED ACFT OFF RWY 9R AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 9L WAITING FOR TWR TO CLR US TO CROSS. WHEN COPLT DISCOVERED WE WERE STILL ON APCH FREQ. WE HAVE A DUAL DISPLAY RADIO. TWR HAD BEEN SET IN BUT NOT SELECTED. WE SWITCHED TO TWR AND TOLD THEM WE WERE HOLDING SHORT. TWR SAID TO CROSS RWY 9L AND CONTACT GND. NO OTHER COMMENT WAS MADE. THE LNDG RWY WAS CLR AND THERE WAS NEVER A CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT OR GND VEHICLE. IT APPEARS WE LANDED WITH THE RADIO SELECTED TO APCH. APCH DID NOT TRY TO CONTACT US INSIDE THE MARKER TO REMIND US TO GO TO TWR. THE TFC IN THE PATTERN WAS LIGHT. THE APCH FLOWN WAS HIGH BECAUSE OF THE CLOSE TURN ON. MY ATTN WAS MORE ON THE DSCNT TO THE GS AND MUST HAVE FAILED TO SWITCH TO TWR. IT WOULD HELP IF APCH COULD WARN ACFT ON DOWNWIND HOW LONG FINALS ARE. IT WOULD HELP IN OUR DSCNT AND CONFIGN PLANNING.
