Narrative:

Purpose of trip was to pickup small aircraft and fly him from crescent city. Airplane had been repaired at crescent city from incident involving running off the end of the runway and having right main gear collapse. Damage to horizontal stabilizer and right wing tip was repaired. Gear was inspected and determined to be down and locked. Aircraft was signed off as repaired. I informed mechanic I intended to leave gear down and locked for the flight home due to dirt and such in wheel well. Mechanic insisted that a ferry permit was not required as everything would be fixed before the airplane left crescent city. As soon as I lifted off from crescent city, the right main was heard to come unlock and was observed to be trailing. For the next 3 hours, I attempted to get the right main back down and locked. I was able to aggressively yaw the aircraft and get the gear to swing into the down position, a green light would momentarily come on, then extinguish. A check of the reservoir revealed no hydraulic fluid. (It was full prior to departure). I attempted to fill the reservoir with urine -- but gear would not cycle. Ended up landing with right main retracted. Flew approach at 100 KTS full flaps, pulled the mixture over the overrun, landed on one (left) wheel and held the right side off the runway with aerodynamic controls. Touched down on left side of runway, airplane ended up perpendicular to runway in the middle of the right side. Only damage was to horizontal stabilizer. Post examination of gear has revealed a damaged downlock plus a split actuator for the right main gear. Next time I'll insist in ferry permit plus look more closely at gear components instead of relying on mechanic. FAA has classified this as an incident.

Title: AN SMA PLT HAD TO LAND WITH HIS R MAIN GEAR TRAILING. THIS HAPPENED AFTER REPAIRS MADE AFTER RUNNING OFF THE END OF A RWY.

Narrative: PURPOSE OF TRIP WAS TO PICKUP SMA AND FLY HIM FROM CRESCENT CITY. AIRPLANE HAD BEEN REPAIRED AT CRESCENT CITY FROM INCIDENT INVOLVING RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RWY AND HAVING R MAIN GEAR COLLAPSE. DAMAGE TO HORIZ STABILIZER AND R WING TIP WAS REPAIRED. GEAR WAS INSPECTED AND DETERMINED TO BE DOWN AND LOCKED. ACFT WAS SIGNED OFF AS REPAIRED. I INFORMED MECH I INTENDED TO LEAVE GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED FOR THE FLT HOME DUE TO DIRT AND SUCH IN WHEEL WELL. MECH INSISTED THAT A FERRY PERMIT WAS NOT REQUIRED AS EVERYTHING WOULD BE FIXED BEFORE THE AIRPLANE LEFT CRESCENT CITY. AS SOON AS I LIFTED OFF FROM CRESCENT CITY, THE R MAIN WAS HEARD TO COME UNLOCK AND WAS OBSERVED TO BE TRAILING. FOR THE NEXT 3 HRS, I ATTEMPTED TO GET THE R MAIN BACK DOWN AND LOCKED. I WAS ABLE TO AGGRESSIVELY YAW THE ACFT AND GET THE GEAR TO SWING INTO THE DOWN POS, A GREEN LIGHT WOULD MOMENTARILY COME ON, THEN EXTINGUISH. A CHK OF THE RESERVOIR REVEALED NO HYD FLUID. (IT WAS FULL PRIOR TO DEP). I ATTEMPTED TO FILL THE RESERVOIR WITH URINE -- BUT GEAR WOULD NOT CYCLE. ENDED UP LNDG WITH R MAIN RETRACTED. FLEW APCH AT 100 KTS FULL FLAPS, PULLED THE MIXTURE OVER THE OVERRUN, LANDED ON ONE (L) WHEEL AND HELD THE R SIDE OFF THE RWY WITH AERODYNAMIC CTLS. TOUCHED DOWN ON L SIDE OF RWY, AIRPLANE ENDED UP PERPENDICULAR TO RWY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE R SIDE. ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO HORIZ STABILIZER. POST EXAMINATION OF GEAR HAS REVEALED A DAMAGED DOWNLOCK PLUS A SPLIT ACTUATOR FOR THE R MAIN GEAR. NEXT TIME I'LL INSIST IN FERRY PERMIT PLUS LOOK MORE CLOSELY AT GEAR COMPONENTS INSTEAD OF RELYING ON MECH. FAA HAS CLASSIFIED THIS AS AN INCIDENT.
