Narrative:

Cruising at FL230 received a low volume TCASII TA immediate RA calling for climb. Climbed to 23800 ft at which time RA terminated (noted TCASII traffic 900 ft below). Descended to FL230 and notified ATC. Traffic was not seen by crew. No conflicting other traffic as a result of TCASII maneuver. Supplemental information from acn 221493: at FL230 inbound to carlton, we got a TA from opposite direction at FL220 and 5 mi. At 2 1/2 mi he went to 900 ft below our altitude. At that point we got a 'climb now.' we had to go to 23800 ft before it let us stop.
