Narrative:

Descending for land in tri-city regional airport as PNF, we were assigned a 020 degree heading in our descent to an assigned altitude of 3700 ft. Passing through approximately 7000 ft, the captain elected to deviate around an area of WX. I was busy working another frequency (#2 radio) and was not aware but he did not advise ATC of his deviation. Back on the frequency, I realized our heading was different and questioned it. He made a turn towards 020 when ATC asked of our heading. They advised us that our assigned heading was for terrain, although we were well above the terrain, we should have communicated better and the PIC should have known to advise of any deviations. The lesson to be learned is -- always question and never think because someone is captain. With more years flying than you are old, that they know better than you.

Narrative: DSNDING FOR LAND IN TRI-CITY REGIONAL ARPT AS PNF, WE WERE ASSIGNED A 020 DEG HDG IN OUR DSCNT TO AN ASSIGNED ALT OF 3700 FT. PASSING THROUGH APPROX 7000 FT, THE CAPT ELECTED TO DEVIATE AROUND AN AREA OF WX. I WAS BUSY WORKING ANOTHER FREQ (#2 RADIO) AND WAS NOT AWARE BUT HE DID NOT ADVISE ATC OF HIS DEV. BACK ON THE FREQ, I REALIZED OUR HDG WAS DIFFERENT AND QUESTIONED IT. HE MADE A TURN TOWARDS 020 WHEN ATC ASKED OF OUR HDG. THEY ADVISED US THAT OUR ASSIGNED HDG WAS FOR TERRAIN, ALTHOUGH WE WERE WELL ABOVE THE TERRAIN, WE SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED BETTER AND THE PIC SHOULD HAVE KNOWN TO ADVISE OF ANY DEVS.
