Narrative:
While flying my experimental homebuilt aircraft I'm constantly thinking about landing areas in case of engine failure. I had just walked off the width of a country road and compared same to aircraft wingspan. I determined road width was not problem (it fits with ft to spare!). Main hazard being wires and road signs, also cars. I chose a stretch of road with no cars for mi, also no farms across road from wires, in fact no farms at all. My approach was into a haze-filled western sky just before sunset. Also I went to about 20 ft AGL before a cross road that contained the wires I hit. I was too intent on the parallel wires and aircraft alignment. Practice emergency lndgs should be terminated at 100 ft or higher, and at a known area.
