Air carrier X under control of ZAB (128.12) 40 southwest gup, going direct onl, given clearance to climb from 290 to 330, in 4 mins or less. Started climb, leaving approximately 32.6, received ATC clearance to turn left number of degrees garbled, started left turn, requested clarification of number of degrees. Controller said turn right 40 degrees, leveled wings, requested further clarification, controller said, turn left 40 degrees. Complied with clearance. Reached 330 in 3 1/2 mins. Air carrier Y passed to our right (did not see him). Air carrier Y stated to controller that his TCASII went off.
