Narrative:

While en route at FL350 (VMC) we experienced smoke in the cabin and the cockpit. After continuing reports of heavy smoke in the cabin and after donning masks up front, I decided that a landing at the nearest suitable airport would be prudent. We chose chattanooga and commenced a descent, informing ZTL after the fact. They rogered our intention and cleared us to FL240 (I think). Somewhere in the descent, (I don't specifically recall the altitude) we received a RA from the TCASII. I stopped the descent until the alert ceased. We did not see the other aircraft nor were we alerted to him by ATC. I attribute the incident to our rushing too much in the cockpit. Had we slowed down and approached the problem methodically, we would have performed better. The problem turned out to be only oil leaking in an air conditioning pack.
