Narrative:

Pilot obtained a full standard briefing via contel duat for route of flight prior to departure. This included all NOTAMS and fdc NOTAMS for the route. Pilot also used current sectional and terminal charts and complied with all FAA regulations and airspace restrictions. Purpose of the flight was to fly from pou to the verrazano narrows within the hudson river corridor, and return, for pleasure sightseeing. All NOTAMS and fdc NOTAMS were reviewed and these did not indicate any restrictions for the route. Pilot used self- announce frequency in the hudson corridor to announce periodic position reports. Other local hudson corridor traffic (mostly helicopter sightseeing flts to the statue of liberty) were also using the frequency to report their position. Upon return to pou, pilot was informed by one of the FBO flight instructors (CFI) that a FSS NOTAM was in effect for that route, requiring contact with ny ATC. Instructor stated that he too obtained information from duat, which did not list NOTAM, but subsequent conversation with FSS made him aware of NOTAM. Pilot previously, as recently as june (for bush visit to ny), had always found NOTAMS for traffic in hudson VFR corridor listed on duat. The NOTAM for the X of july wkend was not available from duat. No conflict with traffic was noted during the flight and no airspace incursions occurred. Pilot was of the impression that information on duat was consistent and as accurate as that given by FSS verbally. Other traffic which was on frequency was apparently also not aware of this NOTAM.

Title: SMA PLT ENTERS TEMPORARY CTLED AIRSPACE DUE TO NO NOTAM GIVEN ON DUAT PREFLT INFO.

Narrative: PLT OBTAINED A FULL STANDARD BRIEFING VIA CONTEL DUAT FOR RTE OF FLT PRIOR TO DEP. THIS INCLUDED ALL NOTAMS AND FDC NOTAMS FOR THE RTE. PLT ALSO USED CURRENT SECTIONAL AND TERMINAL CHARTS AND COMPLIED WITH ALL FAA REGS AND AIRSPACE RESTRICTIONS. PURPOSE OF THE FLT WAS TO FLY FROM POU TO THE VERRAZANO NARROWS WITHIN THE HUDSON RIVER CORRIDOR, AND RETURN, FOR PLEASURE SIGHTSEEING. ALL NOTAMS AND FDC NOTAMS WERE REVIEWED AND THESE DID NOT INDICATE ANY RESTRICTIONS FOR THE RTE. PLT USED SELF- ANNOUNCE FREQ IN THE HUDSON CORRIDOR TO ANNOUNCE PERIODIC POS RPTS. OTHER LCL HUDSON CORRIDOR TFC (MOSTLY HELI SIGHTSEEING FLTS TO THE STATUE OF LIBERTY) WERE ALSO USING THE FREQ TO RPT THEIR POS. UPON RETURN TO POU, PLT WAS INFORMED BY ONE OF THE FBO FLT INSTRUCTORS (CFI) THAT A FSS NOTAM WAS IN EFFECT FOR THAT RTE, REQUIRING CONTACT WITH NY ATC. INSTRUCTOR STATED THAT HE TOO OBTAINED INFO FROM DUAT, WHICH DID NOT LIST NOTAM, BUT SUBSEQUENT CONVERSATION WITH FSS MADE HIM AWARE OF NOTAM. PLT PREVIOUSLY, AS RECENTLY AS JUNE (FOR BUSH VISIT TO NY), HAD ALWAYS FOUND NOTAMS FOR TFC IN HUDSON VFR CORRIDOR LISTED ON DUAT. THE NOTAM FOR THE X OF JULY WKEND WAS NOT AVAILABLE FROM DUAT. NO CONFLICT WITH TFC WAS NOTED DURING THE FLT AND NO AIRSPACE INCURSIONS OCCURRED. PLT WAS OF THE IMPRESSION THAT INFO ON DUAT WAS CONSISTENT AND AS ACCURATE AS THAT GIVEN BY FSS VERBALLY. OTHER TFC WHICH WAS ON FREQ WAS APPARENTLY ALSO NOT AWARE OF THIS NOTAM.
