Narrative:

The captain who sexually harassed me had a long history of this behavior at my company. His misogyny was well known. When this individual and I were assigned to fly together other pilots came up to me and said things like, 'you're flying with XXX? Better bring some mace or a baseball bat.' then they would walk away shaking their heads. I pressed them for details but they would not elaborate. We flew together during june of 1989. The harassment started soon into the month. He had listened to a female ZOA controller. When he got done talking to another aircraft he said, 'bitch!' he didn't key up the microphone and directly call her that but he felt that he should express his opinion of her. By the way, this controller never said anything that could remotely justify his opinion. It was just that she was female. I know this because he would frequently say, 'I hate women.' according to him, 'all women are bitches.' needless to say, I was getting scared of him; I didn't like being around him. He let me know that he didn't like having to fly with a woman. While flying, his way of asking me to get the ATIS was to say, 'get the ATIS, asshole.' when I would try to deal with him as an adult and say that I did not like being treated that way and that he was not to do that again, he would smirk at me. Then when we were on the ground he would say, 'check the gear doors, bozo.' I would again confront him but it didn't work. On our last flight he threw a temper tantrum in the plane to scare me. However, it also scared the passengers. We were on final to 28L at sfo. I was aiming for the spot just past the last set of fixed distance markers so I could make a quick exit off onto taxiway echo. This is a standard procedure since our gate was close to the taxiway. I landed and waited for him to make the '80 KT' call so I could go into beta. (This is an FAA required call). After what seemed like a few seconds past when he should have called it out, I looked over at him. He looked at me and then screamed at me as he grabbed the controls. He pushed the power levers up so quickly and unevenly that we swerved 10 ft off the runway centerline. By this time we were past the runway ones intersection. Because I had landed in the correct spot, taxiway echo was rapidly approaching. He slammed the power levers back into beta and the light transport swerved back across the centerline and approximately 10 ft over on the other side. We exited and taxied to our gate. After he shut the engines down, he pulled his headset off and yelled at me in front of the passengers. He blamed me for his unprofessional and dangerous behavior even though I had done a good landing. He said, 'how the hell could you do that? I'll never let you land again.' the passengers had no clue as to who was at fault. The curtain between us and them had been closed. They had no idea that he had freaked out. Naturally, I tried to get off his schedule. The sfo chief pilot said that was impossible. I related what had been going on prior to this incident. He said that I was the only female pilot to make any accusations against him and it would take more female pilots to do that before anything would get done. That's not the shocking part. My chief pilot next said, 'he has a history of grabbing the female rampers' butts, but that doesn't count since they're just rampers.' it turns out that he had been engaged in this sort of behavior for the past couple yrs. The last and most disturbing problem: both management and my union felt that what I had experienced was not sexual harassment. Title vii of the civil rights act of 1964 says otherwise.

Title: THE RPTR, A FEMALE ACR PLT OF AN LTT, ALLEGES THAT ONE OF HER CAPTS WAS A 'MISOGYNIST' AND THAT HE TOOK THE ACFT AWAY FROM HER ON THE RWY IN AN UNSAFE MANNER WITH NO JUSTIFICATION.

Narrative: THE CAPT WHO SEXUALLY HARASSED ME HAD A LONG HISTORY OF THIS BEHAVIOR AT MY COMPANY. HIS MISOGYNY WAS WELL KNOWN. WHEN THIS INDIVIDUAL AND I WERE ASSIGNED TO FLY TOGETHER OTHER PLTS CAME UP TO ME AND SAID THINGS LIKE, 'YOU'RE FLYING WITH XXX? BETTER BRING SOME MACE OR A BASEBALL BAT.' THEN THEY WOULD WALK AWAY SHAKING THEIR HEADS. I PRESSED THEM FOR DETAILS BUT THEY WOULD NOT ELABORATE. WE FLEW TOGETHER DURING JUNE OF 1989. THE HARASSMENT STARTED SOON INTO THE MONTH. HE HAD LISTENED TO A FEMALE ZOA CTLR. WHEN HE GOT DONE TALKING TO ANOTHER ACFT HE SAID, 'BITCH!' HE DIDN'T KEY UP THE MIKE AND DIRECTLY CALL HER THAT BUT HE FELT THAT HE SHOULD EXPRESS HIS OPINION OF HER. BY THE WAY, THIS CTLR NEVER SAID ANYTHING THAT COULD REMOTELY JUSTIFY HIS OPINION. THEN WHEN WE WERE ON THE GND HE WOULD SAY, 'CHK THE GEAR DOORS, BOZO.' I WOULD AGAIN CONFRONT HIM BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. ON OUR LAST FLT HE THREW A TEMPER TANTRUM IN THE PLANE TO SCARE ME. HOWEVER, IT ALSO SCARED THE PAXS. WE WERE ON FINAL TO 28L AT SFO. I WAS AIMING FOR THE SPOT JUST PAST THE LAST SET OF FIXED DISTANCE MARKERS SO I COULD MAKE A QUICK EXIT OFF ONTO TAXIWAY ECHO. THIS IS A STANDARD PROC SINCE OUR GATE WAS CLOSE TO THE TAXIWAY. HE LOOKED AT ME AND THEN SCREAMED AT ME AS HE GRABBED THE CTLS. HE PUSHED THE PWR LEVERS UP SO QUICKLY AND UNEVENLY THAT WE SWERVED 10 FT OFF THE RWY CTRLINE. BY THIS TIME WE WERE PAST THE RWY ONES INTXN. BECAUSE I HAD LANDED IN THE CORRECT SPOT, TAXIWAY ECHO WAS RAPIDLY APCHING. HE SLAMMED THE PWR LEVERS BACK INTO BETA AND THE LTT SWERVED BACK ACROSS THE CTRLINE AND APPROX 10 FT OVER ON THE OTHER SIDE. WE EXITED AND TAXIED TO OUR GATE. AFTER HE SHUT THE ENGS DOWN, HE PULLED HIS HEADSET OFF AND YELLED AT ME IN FRONT OF THE PAXS. HE BLAMED ME FOR HIS UNPROFESSIONAL AND DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR EVEN THOUGH I HAD DONE A GOOD LNDG. HE SAID, 'HOW THE HELL COULD YOU DO THAT? I'LL NEVER LET YOU LAND AGAIN.' THE PAXS HAD NO CLUE AS TO WHO WAS AT FAULT. THE CURTAIN BTWN US AND THEM HAD BEEN CLOSED. THEY HAD NO IDEA THAT HE HAD FREAKED OUT. NATURALLY, I TRIED TO GET OFF HIS SCHEDULE. THE SFO CHIEF PLT SAID THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. I RELATED WHAT HAD BEEN GOING ON PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. HE SAID THAT I WAS THE ONLY FEMALE PLT TO MAKE ANY ACCUSATIONS AGAINST HIM AND IT WOULD TAKE MORE FEMALE PLTS TO DO THAT BEFORE ANYTHING WOULD GET DONE. THAT'S NOT THE SHOCKING PART. MY CHIEF PLT NEXT SAID, 'HE HAS A HISTORY OF GRABBING THE FEMALE RAMPERS' BUTTS, BUT THAT DOESN'T COUNT SINCE THEY'RE JUST RAMPERS.' IT TURNS OUT THAT HE HAD BEEN ENGAGED IN THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOR FOR THE PAST COUPLE YRS. THE LAST AND MOST DISTURBING PROBLEM: BOTH MGMNT AND MY UNION FELT THAT WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED WAS NOT SEXUAL HARASSMENT. TITLE VII OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 SAYS OTHERWISE.
