Narrative:

While on a visual approach to runway 36L our TCASII gave us a RA. I glanced down at the display and saw that the other aircraft was moving right to left relative to our aircraft. I maneuvered our aircraft to the right to pass behind the conflicting traffic. Once clear of traffic, I lined the aircraft up with what I thought was runway 36L. It turned out to be 36R. The tower alerted us to the fact that we appeared to be lined with 36R instead of 36L. A sidestep maneuver was accomplished and the landing completed on 36L. All 3 crew members became overly concerned with the TCASII advisory and none realized that the evasive maneuver aligned the aircraft with the wrong runway. This highly automated aircraft allowed the crew to place a great deal of attention to clearing the outside area. No evasive actions or hazardous situations resulted from above occurrence. I wanted this to be a learning experience for my crew and it has turned out to be just that.

Title: WRONG RWY APCH.

Narrative: WHILE ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36L OUR TCASII GAVE US A RA. I GLANCED DOWN AT THE DISPLAY AND SAW THAT THE OTHER ACFT WAS MOVING R TO L RELATIVE TO OUR ACFT. I MANEUVERED OUR ACFT TO THE R TO PASS BEHIND THE CONFLICTING TFC. ONCE CLR OF TFC, I LINED THE ACFT UP WITH WHAT I THOUGHT WAS RWY 36L. IT TURNED OUT TO BE 36R. THE TWR ALERTED US TO THE FACT THAT WE APPEARED TO BE LINED WITH 36R INSTEAD OF 36L. A SIDESTEP MANEUVER WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND THE LNDG COMPLETED ON 36L. ALL 3 CREW MEMBERS BECAME OVERLY CONCERNED WITH THE TCASII ADVISORY AND NONE REALIZED THAT THE EVASIVE MANEUVER ALIGNED THE ACFT WITH THE WRONG RWY. THIS HIGHLY AUTOMATED ACFT ALLOWED THE CREW TO PLACE A GREAT DEAL OF ATTN TO CLRING THE OUTSIDE AREA. NO EVASIVE ACTIONS OR HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS RESULTED FROM ABOVE OCCURRENCE. I WANTED THIS TO BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR MY CREW AND IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE JUST THAT.
