Narrative:

Flight was cleared to cross fix at 13000 ft at 250 KTS. Radials and DME information did not agree with each other. Flying pilot used azimuth indications to determine position and intercept. Controller asked if aircraft was going to intercept inbound course while we were approximately 1/2 way through the turn west/ a centered needle. (DME and azimuth disagreed by 2 mi). Although there is a possibility that the aircraft did fly through the course, there is no doubt that according to cockpit indications the aircraft crossed the fix on altitude (but 80 KTS fast due to strong updrafts). If the DME information was correct (with azimuth in error) the aircraft crossed the fix approximately 1000 ft high and then flew through the course 2 mi. This deviation could have been prevented by: 1) keeping VOR accuracy data (30 day checks) in the aircraft for the pilot's use. Currently, the company keeps the VOR logs in maintenance (maintenance performs the accuracy checks). 2) better situational awareness by crew (non-flying pilot was saturated with off frequency radio work calling company maintenance).

Title: MLG MISSES XING RESTRICTION, SPD RESTRICTION. DME AND AZIMUTH DISAGREE BY 2 MI.

Narrative: FLT WAS CLRED TO CROSS FIX AT 13000 FT AT 250 KTS. RADIALS AND DME INFO DID NOT AGREE WITH EACH OTHER. FLYING PLT USED AZIMUTH INDICATIONS TO DETERMINE POS AND INTERCEPT. CTLR ASKED IF ACFT WAS GOING TO INTERCEPT INBOUND COURSE WHILE WE WERE APPROX 1/2 WAY THROUGH THE TURN W/ A CENTERED NEEDLE. (DME AND AZIMUTH DISAGREED BY 2 MI). ALTHOUGH THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE ACFT DID FLY THROUGH THE COURSE, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT ACCORDING TO COCKPIT INDICATIONS THE ACFT CROSSED THE FIX ON ALT (BUT 80 KTS FAST DUE TO STRONG UPDRAFTS). IF THE DME INFO WAS CORRECT (WITH AZIMUTH IN ERROR) THE ACFT CROSSED THE FIX APPROX 1000 FT HIGH AND THEN FLEW THROUGH THE COURSE 2 MI. THIS DEV COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY: 1) KEEPING VOR ACCURACY DATA (30 DAY CHKS) IN THE ACFT FOR THE PLT'S USE. CURRENTLY, THE COMPANY KEEPS THE VOR LOGS IN MAINT (MAINT PERFORMS THE ACCURACY CHKS). 2) BETTER SITUATIONAL AWARENESS BY CREW (NON-FLYING PLT WAS SATURATED WITH OFF FREQ RADIO WORK CALLING COMPANY MAINT).
