Narrative:
Pilot encountered fog while flying VFR and inadvertently entered the air traffic area of the jvl airport. Pilot estimates he closed to within 3-4 mi of the airport. Upon discovery of the error, pilot initiated an immediate turn and left the air traffic area within approximately 1 min. Had the airport runway lights been illuminated, pilot would probably have seen the airport from a greater distance and been able to avoid the incursion.

Title: SMA ENCOUNTERS FOG AND PENETRATES ATA AND CZN.
Narrative: PLT ENCOUNTERED FOG WHILE FLYING VFR AND INADVERTENTLY ENTERED THE ATA OF THE JVL ARPT. PLT ESTIMATES HE CLOSED TO WITHIN 3-4 MI OF THE ARPT. UPON DISCOVERY OF THE ERROR, PLT INITIATED AN IMMEDIATE TURN AND LEFT THE ATA WITHIN APPROX 1 MIN. HAD THE ARPT RWY LIGHTS BEEN ILLUMINATED, PLT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE SEEN THE ARPT FROM A GREATER DISTANCE AND BEEN ABLE TO AVOID THE INCURSION.
