Narrative:

Crew picked up flight plan and release for a trip from sea to anc. Both captain and first officer were new hires. Flight plan showed route to be over 50 mi from shore. Although both crew and aircraft were omega qualified, and we used the omega navigation as a back up, our operations specifications are not approved for flight more than 50 mi from shore. It was just a coincidence that this flight plan was accidentally sent to a crew and aircraft able to accept it. It was after the flight we realized it was not legal. The flight was uneventful and the situation handled.
