Narrative:

Flew an aircraft cross country with an expired temporary registration. Both the captain and a company officer explained that they do have the new registration and that it would be put in the aircraft as soon as possible and to keep flying the aircraft because that was my job. The captain put the expired temporary in his pocket and left the superseded permanent registration in the aircraft in case of a ramp check.
