Narrative:

Landed on runway 26R in atl without clearance - visual approach. To runway 26R. Cleared visibility 20 mi out told to contact tower at marker. It seems this is the only phase of flight in which you are passed to another controller and told to contact them at a different time. The airport area becomes very busy for flcs and a simple distraction could cause a crew member to miss an instruction which is out of the norm if approach control wants you to contact tower then it should be at the time of transmission or the flight crew should be told to switch frequency. By the approach controller when it is required.
