Narrative:

Nashville approach slowed us to 170 KTS and vectored us on to 23 mi final for runway 20L. We called airport in sight and were cleared for a visual approach. We then saw an (medium large transport) high to our left (500-800 ft above us and descending) turning onto the localizer. At the same time, approach called and cancelled our approach clearance and gave us a left turn to 130 degree (70 degree left turn).) almost immediately TCASII alert sounded for traffic ahead of us. We were then asked if we had the (medium large transport) in sight. We said yes and were cleared for a visual at 'min approach speed.'
