Narrative:

The incident occurred during taxi to runway 12L. Clearance from the general aviation ramp was 'taxi to runway 12 via runway 13.' while approaching taxiway 'C' on runway 13 the aircraft I was taxiing was told to contact tower. Tower gave unrequested 'taxi into position and hold' clearance. I was past taxiway 'C' so came around the end of runway 13 toward 12L using runway 24 for the turn. While on 24 I was asked if I had wanted 24 and replied I requested FL220 but would take FL240 and continued taxi to 12L while the tower controller advised me runway 13 and 12L do not intersect. He then issued takeoff clearance. The problem seems to be unfamiliarity with the use of runways not in current active use as taxiways and the unspecific rules of use of runways for taxi, also saying '24' without the word runway before it makes meanings unclr. This could be avoided by a clearance 'taxi to runway 12L via runway 13 and taxiway charlie do not cross runway 24.' there was no collision or apparent hazard this time.

Title: CORP ACFT TAXIS ONTO RWY TO GO TO ACTIVE WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING TAXI TO RWY 12L. CLRNC FROM THE GENERAL AVIATION RAMP WAS 'TAXI TO RWY 12 VIA RWY 13.' WHILE APCHING TAXIWAY 'C' ON RWY 13 THE ACFT I WAS TAXIING WAS TOLD TO CONTACT TWR. TWR GAVE UNREQUESTED 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD' CLRNC. I WAS PAST TAXIWAY 'C' SO CAME AROUND THE END OF RWY 13 TOWARD 12L USING RWY 24 FOR THE TURN. WHILE ON 24 I WAS ASKED IF I HAD WANTED 24 AND REPLIED I REQUESTED FL220 BUT WOULD TAKE FL240 AND CONTINUED TAXI TO 12L WHILE THE TWR CTLR ADVISED ME RWY 13 AND 12L DO NOT INTERSECT. HE THEN ISSUED TKOF CLRNC. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE USE OF RWYS NOT IN CURRENT ACTIVE USE AS TAXIWAYS AND THE UNSPECIFIC RULES OF USE OF RWYS FOR TAXI, ALSO SAYING '24' WITHOUT THE WORD RWY BEFORE IT MAKES MEANINGS UNCLR. THIS COULD BE AVOIDED BY A CLRNC 'TAXI TO RWY 12L VIA RWY 13 AND TAXIWAY CHARLIE DO NOT CROSS RWY 24.' THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR APPARENT HAZARD THIS TIME.
