Narrative:

We were being vectored for an ILS approach to runway 20L at nashville. WX was good VFR. The controller advised us that an FAA flight check small transport would be passing under us as we turned final for the runway. We were also advised that he (we are not sure what he meant) provide separation. Upon turning on final approach approximately 2 mi from the OM (judd intersection) we received a TCASII RA of þdonþt dsndþ. We were unable to begin final descent on the GS since this small transport remained directly under us. We were issued a þclr of conflictþ but as soon as a descent was initiated the þdonþt dsndþ RA was issued. Approach was advised of the TCASII RA and a go around was executed. Upon questioning of the controller it was learned that the FAA aircraft was providing his own separation while conducting a check of the facilities. This was my first RA and iþm not sold on the TCASII system.

Title: ACR MLG STOPPED DSCNT AND MADE A GAR FROM APCH TO BNA BECAUSE OF TCASII RA FROM AN FAA ACFT THAT HAD ADVISED THEY WOULD MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION.

Narrative: WE WERE BEING VECTORED FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 20L AT NASHVILLE. WX WAS GOOD VFR. THE CTLR ADVISED US THAT AN FAA FLT CHK SMT WOULD BE PASSING UNDER US AS WE TURNED FINAL FOR THE RWY. WE WERE ALSO ADVISED THAT HE (WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT HE MEANT) PROVIDE SEPARATION. UPON TURNING ON FINAL APCH APPROX 2 MI FROM THE OM (JUDD INTXN) WE RECEIVED A TCASII RA OF þDONþT DSNDþ. WE WERE UNABLE TO BEGIN FINAL DSCNT ON THE GS SINCE THIS SMT REMAINED DIRECTLY UNDER US. WE WERE ISSUED A þCLR OF CONFLICTþ BUT AS SOON AS A DSCNT WAS INITIATED THE þDONþT DSNDþ RA WAS ISSUED. APCH WAS ADVISED OF THE TCASII RA AND A GAR WAS EXECUTED. UPON QUESTIONING OF THE CTLR IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE FAA ACFT WAS PROVIDING HIS OWN SEPARATION WHILE CONDUCTING A CHK OF THE FACILITIES.
