Narrative:

During descent on a left downwind leg for a visibility landing at smf runway 34L, we were high and overshooting centerline for runway 34L. An air carrier Y medium large transport Y was on approach to runway 34R. The controller noted what was happening and asked us to roll out and level off to go over the medium large transport Y, and then do a 270 degree turn for a normal landing to 34L. Thanks to a sharp controller, he prevented what could have been a bad situation.
