Narrative:

Takeoff roll and rotation seemed to be normal. After gear retraction the tailskid light came on and remained on, crew accomplished the appropriate irregular procedures. The aft flight attendant then called and said there was a loud thump shortly after lift off. Crew consulted with the company maintenance controller by radio and continued flight to destination (sea). Upon arrival at the gate, found the tailskid disconnected from cartridge, which was retracted into housing in the fuselage. Skid pad was rotated 180 degree. Suspect that limited visual references resulted in a slightly higher than normal rotation rate, this combined with the high gross weight of the aircraft probably resulted in the tailskid contacting the runway surface.

Title: TAILSKID IS DAMAGED DURING TKOF.

Narrative: TKOF ROLL AND ROTATION SEEMED TO BE NORMAL. AFTER GEAR RETRACTION THE TAILSKID LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON, CREW ACCOMPLISHED THE APPROPRIATE IRREGULAR PROCS. THE AFT FLT ATTENDANT THEN CALLED AND SAID THERE WAS A LOUD THUMP SHORTLY AFTER LIFT OFF. CREW CONSULTED WITH THE COMPANY MAINT CTLR BY RADIO AND CONTINUED FLT TO DEST (SEA). UPON ARR AT THE GATE, FOUND THE TAILSKID DISCONNECTED FROM CARTRIDGE, WHICH WAS RETRACTED INTO HOUSING IN THE FUSELAGE. SKID PAD WAS ROTATED 180 DEG. SUSPECT THAT LIMITED VISUAL REFS RESULTED IN A SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN NORMAL ROTATION RATE, THIS COMBINED WITH THE HIGH GROSS WEIGHT OF THE ACFT PROBABLY RESULTED IN THE TAILSKID CONTACTING THE RWY SURFACE.
